Trying something New week 51 December 8 – 14
I received a free coupon offer to try Devine Chocolate. Although they sell all sorts of flavors, I chose their plain dark chocolate 70%. Perhaps in the future I will try another flavor, but for now I just preferred to be a purist
Devine chocolate does fair trade with Ghana farmers. I love fair trade companies! And I was really hoping this would be some tasty chocolate
When I opened the chocolate I had to smile and my curiosity level was up just a bit, because on the chocolate was printed all sorts of little pictures and symbols, pictures of hearts, swirly circles, cute little cryptograms and all sorts of things. This was also on the wrapper too. At first I thought awwwwww this is cute, but
Come to find out these little symbols actually mean something.
If you go on the devine chocolate website there is actually a lesson plan with the symbols on them. These symbols are from the Ghana culture that they still use today. I found it pretty fascinating really
Here are just a few phrases I learned
Akoma = Patience and harmony,
Mate Masie = Wisdom and knowledge
Sankofa = Revival
Mapapo= Reconcilation and Peace
